Stan was born on July 12, 1973 on a United States Naval Base in Japan. He owes his unique looks to his Irish father, who was stationed in Japan, and his Japanese mother. After just a year in Yokosaka, Stan and his parents moved to Illinois and then after his brother Michael was born, the family moved to Los Angeles, California.

Feeling like an outcast because of his dark skin and narrow eyes, Stan’s father suggested he take up sports. Stan decided that he wanted to play football and study Kung Fu. He eventually studied, and has become proficient in various forms of martial arts, as well as continuing to play football. But one day in school he used his trained fighting skills for the wrong reasons and was transferred to a school that was notoriously known for its gangs and violence. Even though Stan continued to play varsity football and even making MVP in his senior year, he was quickly heading down the wrong path. To put more mass on his body so he could play college football, he joined 24 Hour Fitness Center and by happy coincidence it slowly put him back on track and away from trouble.

Stan eventually switched gyms and started to work out at Powerhouse Gym in Chatsworth. A few of the members noticed that Stan had great potential and started giving him lift and diet tips. His 5’7” frame quickly put on muscle mass – currently he maintains an off-season weight of 215 pounds and contest weight of 200 pounds.

The guys at the gym even talked him into entering his first bodybuilding competition – even though he had no clue what to do or what to expect. In 1997 he placed 2nd in the UNBA Natural Bodybuilding Championships and it was at that moment Stan realized that he had the potential to make it in bodybuilding. Throughout 1998 and 1999, Stan entered numerous bodybuilding competitions including: ABA – California State Championships (1998 – 1st and Overall), NPC Ironman Championship (1998-99 - 2nd place), and Musclemania World Championship (1998 – 2nd place / 1999 – 1st place).

In June of 2000, Stan competed in one of the biggest competitions of his life, the Super Body World Championships. It was in this competition that Stan found himself among bodybuilders from around the world hoping to achieve their “pro” status. Not only did Stan win the Middleweight category, but also the Overall Champion title. He then started competing as a pro and placed 2nd in the Musclemania World Championships (Pro), 1st place in the 2001 Superbody World Championship; 1st place in the NPC USA Championships and in 2003 and 2004 he was runner-up in the NPC National Championships. Then in 2006 Stan accomplished the unthinkable by winning the NPC National Light-Heavyweight title in his first try in that division.

Stan has been an icon in the fitness, bodybuilding and martial arts industries for over 20 years. Having earned two black belts in martial arts and being the first athlete in the United States to obtain professional status in two major world bodybuilding organizations, his work ethic, self-discipline and determination to succeed are unquestioned.

Having graced over 100 book and magazine covers worldwide and hosting his own TV workout shows on ESPN, FOX and The Discovery Channel, his name is synonymous with fitness. After winning the 2006 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships, McQuay used his notoriety and 10 years of private training experience to establish Muscle Incorporated, thereby becoming a major player in the “celebrity market.” In just over a year, McQuay’s client list has become a who’s who of entertainers and athletes, including the likes of rappers Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, lead actor from the movie 300, Gerard Butler, American Gladiator Tanoai Reed (“Toa”), UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, as well as several NFL and Major League Baseball players.

Stan is now ready to raise the bar in the world of fitness even higher. Having been a proven champion throughout his life, both as an athlete and elite trainer, he plans to further dispense his knowledge and experience in maximizing physical performance by opening a one-of-a-kind facility: a fitness/mixed martial arts/wellness center. In doing so, he’ll be capitalizing on not only the ever-expanding fitness revolution, but also the increasing popularity of one of the country’s fastest growing sports, mixed martial arts. McQuay has been a recognized authority in both arenas for decades, making him the ideal catalyst for making such an endeavor successful.
